You can improve the look and durability for your personal or professional garage simply by adding new garage floor paint. Both commercial and home garages have benefited from using the paint and some have even gained some business. Garage floor paint can be applied to concrete garage flooring and even to wood covered floors so you can be sure your floor can be upgraded by the paint.
Epoxy coating and latex paint are used to cover most garage flooring, and they are both great products to choose from. You can use standard home paint for your floor, but the results will not be as good as those of epoxy and latex paint. Plus the latex and epoxy options offer better protection and a higher gloss finish to your floor. Before applying your garage floor paint there are some things you need to do first.
Giving your garage floor a deep and thorough cleaning will help prepare it for its new paint job. Scrub your floor with a shop brush and soap and water to remove all the oil, grease and dirt. You must do this before beginning any steps to applying your new garage floor paint. If you have some old, deep oil stains try removing them with chemicals and abrasive scrub pads. Before you apply any paint or coating your floor must be completely free of all grime, dirt and grease. You can also spray your floor with prep cleaner and then rinsing it to better prepare and your floor for the new paint application.
You can now begin to apply your new garage floor paint once you have properly cleaned your flooring. You may have to mix some coating solutions together depending on the paint or coat you choose to apply to your garage flooring. Once the mix is ready, apply the paint or coat thoroughly onto your floor with a small bristle shop brush or floor painting type brush. If you want to, you can even add paint chips to your coat or paint for a more unique and outgoing paint job. You just sprinkle the chips around the floor or in the locations you want them. Once you do this, repeat the paint or coat application to make sure your floor is completely covered.
Giving your garage floor paint plenty of time to dry is crucial to its longevity and durability. Tire tracks and other aesthetic damages can occur if you do not allow your flooring ample time to dry. For garage spaces with low traffic, about 18 hours is a good amount of time to dry. If you have a professional garage with heavier traffic, you need to allow the paint or coat to dry for 24 hours if not more.
Regularly maintaining your floor is important, but fairly simple. Wash your floor with soap and water or a type of mild cleanser to keep it clean. For the first 30 days, do not use a power washer on your new garage floor paint to avoid any chipping.
You can improve the look and durability for your garage with garage floor paint. It can be easy to do with proper preparation for applying your new garage floor coatings.
